11 Suspects Arrested in Case of Missing Malaysian Plane
Some 2 months after disappearance of flight MH370, members of new, al-Qaeda terrorist cell arrested for alleged involvement in incident
Some two months after flight MH370 disappeared and most likely crashed in the Indian Ocean, Malaysian police arrested 11 al-Qaeda members on Saturday night for suspected involvement in the disappearance of the plane and the 239 passengers and staff.
The 11 suspects, who were arrested in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, are members of a new terrorist cell that has planned terror attacks on various Muslim countries.
The arrest of the 11 suspects, ages 22 through 55, including students, business people and even a young widow, comes after an intensive FBI and MI6 investigation.
The suspects are expected to be questioned regarding the disappearance of the Malaysian flight in March.
Deniece Cornejo Surrendered to the Authorities
MANILA - Model Deniece Cornejo, one of the five people charged with serious illegal detention in connection with the January 22 mauling of actor Vhong Navarro, surrendered on Monday afternoon to authorities.
Cornejo arrived at Camp Crame in Quezon City at around 4 p.m., PNP Chief Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindac confirmed with radio DZMM.
According to Sindac, Cornejo was brought to the office of PNP chief Alan Purisima to discuss her surrender.
Cornejo's co-accused, Cedric Lee and Simeon Raz, were arrested for the same non-bailable offense in Oras, Eastern Samar last April 25 after weeks in hiding.
Aside from Lee, Raz, and Cornejo, arrest warrants for serious illegal detention were issued against Ferdinand Guerrero and Jed Fernandez -- who remain at large.
All five, plus Lee's sister Bernice and Jose Paolo Calma, were issued separate arrest warrants for grave coercion.
Bernice, Cornejo and Fernandez earlier posted P12,000 bail each for the criminal offense. Calma, meanwhile, left the Philippines last April 10 despite a lookout bulletin order mentioning his name. -- Report from Edwin Sevidal, DZMM
